The NT transport subsidy scheme provides subsidised taxi fares for NT residents with a permanent or long-term disability.

To be generally eligible for the scheme, you must:

  • Be a resident of the Northern Territory.
  • Be unable to travel safely on a bus; and
  • Be assessed by a qualified health professional as having a permanent or long-term (more than six months) disability (available based on individual need and scheme criteria as assessed and recommended by your eye care professional).

There are four categories of subsidy available to eligible applicants.

Category D: For applicants with conditions which have 'flare up' episodes or who have access to other means of transport. Category D members are eligible for up to $243 in subsidies within a financial year.

Category C: For applicants who do not fit any of the other categories and have limited modes of transport. Category C members are eligible for up to $604 per financial year.

Category B: For applicants with limited access to other transport and who can demonstrate engagement in recurring education, volunteering, or community engagement. Category B members are eligible for up to $2,056 in subsidies per financial year.

Category A: For applicants with extenuating circumstances. These applications and their outcome will vary from person to person.

To apply for the scheme, download and complete the form or call 08 8924 7229 to have a copy mailed to you. If you are travelling interstate, you are eligible to receive interstate vouchers but will need to contact the transport subsidy scheme to request them.

For more information, read the transport subsidies and lift incentives booklet or visit the NT Transport and Subsidy website. To contact the scheme, email cpv.admin@nt.gov.au or call 08 8924 7229.
