Victoria (VIC) public transport subsidies and vision loss
Find out about public transport subsidies available for low vision in Victoria.

In Victoria, if you are experiencing low vision or blindness you may apply for Vision Impaired Travel Pass (VITP) which entitles the pass holder to free travel on Melbourne metropolitan trains, trams and buses, V/Line trains and coaches, regional town buses and regional services that have a contract or service agreement with Public Transport Victoria (PTV). Your pass will be loaded onto a personalised myki with your photo on it. You don’t need to touch on or off. Show the pass to public transport staff when asked. Always carry your pass with you while travelling on public transport.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Vision Impaired Travel Pass you must be:
- Assessed as permanently and legally blind by an ophthalmologist or optometrist.
- A Victorian resident.

Visiting from interstate
Vision Impaired Travel Passes from other states are accepted.
Travelling Companion
Additionally, the National Companion Card Scheme allows eligible people with disabilities to participate in activities without a second ticket cost for their companion, including some public transport services.
