Guide Dogs NSW/ACT

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT provides support and training for people living with low vision or blindness.

17th November 2025

For more than 60 years, Guide Dogs NSW/ACT has empowered people with low vision or blindness to live independently, safely, and with confidence. While Guide Dogs NSW/ACT is best known for their life-changing Guide Dogs and Therapy Dogs, their impact stretches beyond this. They provide practical skills and specialist services for people living with low vision or blindness.

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT services include:

  • Low Vision Orthoptics: provide a low vision assessment and work with you to create strategies to make the most of your residual vision. They link you with assistive technology like magnifiers and train you to use them to achieve your goals.
  • Orientation and Mobility: specialised training in skills and strategies for navigating different environments with low vision. This may include techniques for moving around your home, workplace or community, catching public transport, or using mobility aids such as a white cane and Guide Dog.
  • Occupational Therapy: one-on-one support from an Occupational Therapist to help you achieve your personal goals to live independently. Goals are tailored to your needs, and may include self-care, household chores, leisure activities, meal preparation and more.
  • Assistive Technology: training and support to use assistive technologies to access information from the world around you, such as screen readers, accessibility features on your devices and Braille devices.
  • Connections Service: various programs designed to connect people with low vision or blindness in NSW and the ACT through shared interests. Programs are delivered both in person and online across both states.
