Guide Dogs Queensland has provided practical and emotional support for people living with low vision or blindness for 65 years, empowering them to achieve independence, participation, inclusion, and wellbeing. Though Guide Dogs is best known for its incredible Guide Dogs and Assistance Dogs, Guide Dogs Queensland’s impact extends beyond this. Its range of services are designed to provide personalised solutions to meet each person’s unique goals.

Its range of services are designed to provide personalised solutions to meet each person’s unique goals.

Guide Dogs Queensland’s services include:

Orientation and Mobility: specialised training in skills and strategies for navigating different environments with low vision. This may include techniques for moving around your home, workplace or community, catching public transport, or using mobility aids such as a white cane or electronic travel aids.

Guide Dog Mobility: assessment and training of Guide Dog mobility. This may include assessment of mobility needs to determine suitability for a guide dog as well as route development.

Assistive Technology: training and support to use assistive technologies to access information from the world around you, such as screen readers, accessibility features on your devices and Braille devices.

Occupational Therapy:training with an Occupational Therapist to help you achieve your personal goals to live independently. Goals are tailored to your needs, and may include self-care, household chores, leisure activities, meal preparation and more.

Orthoptics: provide functional vision assessments and work with your Orientation and Mobility specialist, Occupational Therapist, and ophthalmologist to recommend practical, personalised solutions for using residual vision.

Leisure and Lifestyle Services: support to connect with your community through social groups, leisure and lifestyle activities based on your interests and location.

Counselling Services: individual counselling sessions held in-person or over the phone, to support you navigating low vision at any stage of your journey.
