Guide Dogs Victoria
Guide Dogs Victoria promotes practical skills training and connections for people living with low vision or blindness.
Since 1957, Guide Dogs Victoria have supported people living with low vision or blindness to achieve their goals for living independently through community initiatives, training, and education. With a range of services promoting practical skills training and connections, Guide Dogs Victoria’s reach extends well beyond their famous Guide Dogs and Therapy Dogs.

Guide Dogs Victoria's services include:
- Orthoptic Low Vision: supporting Clients to understand their level of functional vision and providing techniques and options for accessing visual information. Our Orthoptists assess the level of functional vision and help with strategies designed to make the best use of a person’s remaining vision. This may involve exploring lighting, scanning skills, magnification and electronic aids that increase independence with reading and other activities.
- Orientation and Mobility Training: provides skills and strategies for navigating environments with low vision or blindness. Our programs grow alongside children into adulthood, equipping them with skills to navigate the world, thrive in school and build meaningful connections with their peers. We provide individual as well as group-based support to ensure children, teens and adults reach their potential.
For seniors over the age of 65, losing vision later in life can feel isolating. With the right support, they can stay living within their own home, independent and connected to their community - Occupational Therapy: one-on-one support from an Occupational Therapist to help you achieve your personal goals to live independently through practical skills. Goals are tailored to your needs, and may include self-care, household chores, leisure activities, meal preparation and more.
- Employment Services: in partnership with CVGT Employment, support throughout the process of applying for jobs, interviewing for positions, and workplace readiness accommodations for both the employee and employer.
- Acquired Brain Injury Services: specialised training in skills and techniques for adjusting to vision changes following acquired brain injury, tailored to your unique goals and requirements.
- Early Childhood Services: we work closely with families and carers to help young children aged zero to seven meet key developmental milestones while building confidence and independence through tailored programs. By empowering families with the right tools, we can ensure every child can thrive in their formative years and reach developmental goals.
- Guide Dog Mobility: supporting Clients to partner with a Guide Dog to access the community with confidence. Thanks to their unique skills, Guide Dogs can maximise confidence and independence and help a person with blindness or low vision enjoy a greater sense of security, both at home and in the community.
