Blind Citizens Australia (BCA) works to achieve equity so that people who are blind or vision impaired can live the lives they choose, in communities that respect, recognise and respond to their diversity and individuality.

As a member-led organisation, BCA supports self-organisation and self-determination, uniting people across Australia through a strong and trusted national voice.

About BCA

BCA drives change so people who are blind or vision impaired can participate fully and equally in Australian society.

They achieve this purpose by:

  • Empowering and connecting people who are blind or vision impaired through accessible information, education and strong community networks.
  • Representing and advocating for the interests of people who are blind or vision impaired,
  • Providing high quality support, services, projects and events, and
  • Increasing access, awareness, and expectations across the broader community.

This work includes delivering targeted individual and systemic advocacy. BCA supports people who are blind or vision impaired to build the skills, knowledge and confidence to advocate for themselves, while also working to influence policies, systems and decision-making processes.

BCA develops and delivers campaigns and projects that address barriers to participation in Australian society. These focus on areas such as employment, education, audio description, voting and banking, and aim to improve access and inclusion for people who are blind or vision impaired.

BCA is a membership organisation. You can join BCA for free to:

  • Connect with peers, receive regular information on BCA and sector events.
  • Add your voice and experience to BCA’s policy and position statements through consultation.
  • Engage with projects and opportunities.

BCA’s an Eye to the Future

Eye to the Future is a BCA initiative dedicated to improving employment outcomes for people who are blind or vision impaired.

The program supports job seekers by:

  • Providing practical resources, guidance and confidence to navigate the job market.
  • Assisting students and young people transitioning from education to employment through career planning, work readiness and self-advocacy.

Eye to the Future also works with employers to promote inclusive recruitment, workplace adjustments and accessible technologies, while partnering with businesses and disability organisations to challenge misconceptions and drive systemic change.
