Summary

Whether it’s hosting a gathering or enjoying a quiet meal, the art of barbecuing can be accessible, delicious and fun. Here are some practical tips to help you enjoy barbecuing with confidence.

Prepare Your Space
Start with a safe location. Place the barbecue on a flat, stable surface away from flammable materials like plants or furniture.

Organise your tools
Use a tray to keep utensils, seasonings, and plates in one spot. Label items with tactile markers or high-contrast colours for easy identification. Some useful barbecue tools include a heat-resistant barbecue glove with an apron clip, double sided spatula tongs and a barbecue grill press basket with a long handle. A talking meat thermometer can also be very helpful. Use a timer or a voice-activated assistant to avoid overcooking or burning food.

Set up safely and check the barbecue
Ensure gas connections are secure, or charcoal is arranged properly. If lighting the barbecue, us a long-reach lighter and follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. Placing tactile bump dots on specific settings can be helpful to easily identify and adjust controls.

Stay aware and maintain clear paths
Never leave the barbecue unattended while cooking. Keep the area around the barbecue free of tripping hazards.

Clean up safely
Ensure the barbecue is fully cooled before cleaning. Wear heat-resistant gloves while scrubbing to avoid burns.

Bon appetit!
