Victoria's Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) supports Victorian residents unable to use public transport due to permanent disability by subsidising the cost of taxi rides.

If eligible, 50 percent of your trip will be subsidised, for fares up to $60 total. The subsidy can be accessed using an MPTP card, which works similarly to an EFTPOS card. Confirm with your driver at the start of your trip that they are able to process your MPTP subsidy, or let the operator know when you are booking a taxi you intend to use your card.

To be eligible for the scheme, you must:

  • Have permanent Australian residency and live in Victoria.
  • Have a permanent disability which prevents you from safely and independently using public transport
  • Hold one of these kinds of concession card:
    • A DVA card.
    • A Centrelink pension card.
    • A Centrelink health care card.
    • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, or;
    • Be able to provide a Notice of Assessment from the ATO to demonstrate financial hardship.

To apply for the MPTP, your optometrist or ophthalmologist will need to first complete this online medical assessment form. Once Safe Transport Victoria has received your medical assessment, they will send you a consent form by mail. Complete this form and return it using the provided details. Your application will then be reviewed within 15 business days, and you will be notified in writing about the outcome of your application. If you have questions about or issues with your application, contact Safe Transport Victoria on 1800 638 802.

For more information, check out the MPTP website and this brochure, or you can email mptp@safetransport.vic.gov.au for additional support.
