Australian Capital Territory (ACT) transport subsidies and vision loss

Australian Capital Territory

Vision Impaired Travel Pass holders are entitled to free travel on Transport Canberra bus and light rail services. Free travel includes an attendant, if required.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Vision Impaired Travel Pass you must be:

  • Assessed as permanently and legally blind, and
  • A permanent resident of the ACT.

You can verify eligibility for the Vision Impaired Travel Pass by one of the following:

  • Letter from optometrist, doctor, eye specialist or eye surgeon stating the applicant’s status.
  • Letter from Guide Dogs Australia, Canberra Blind Society or Vision Australia, stating the applicant’s status.
  • Copy of Age Pension or Disability Support Pension on the basis of blindness from the Department of Human Services.
  • Copy of Vision Impaired Travel Pass from another state or territory.

Download a copy of the application form or call 13 17 10 for more information on how to apply. Vision impaired travel passes issued by another Australian State or Territory Government are also accepted.

Travelling Companion

Additionally, the National Companion Card Scheme allows eligible people with disabilities to participate in activities without a second ticket cost for their companion, including some public transport services.
