Who can access the service?
Telepractice is available to anyone in Australia living with vision loss or blindness, from infants through to seniors. Services are available regardless of diagnosis. Support is provided to individuals, families, carers, and health professionals seeking advice for their clients.
How it works
Guide Dogs Telepractice services delivers the same high quality, individualised services as their in-person programs, adapted for online delivery. Sessions are delivered via secure video conferencing or phone, and where required, supported by resource packs posted or hosted with a telepractice assistant present. Key features of the services:
- Multidisciplinary approach: Access to Orientation & Mobility Specialists, Occupational Therapists, Orthoptists, Assistive Technology Specialists and connections services.
- Individual and group programs: From independent travel and daily living skills to technology training, peer support, and children’s developmental programs.
- Flexible delivery: One on one or small group sessions, tailored to the client’s goals, schedule, and environment.
- Collaboration: Guide Dogs works closely with allied health professionals, ophthalmologists, optometrists, GPs, and local health services to ensure integrated care.
How to request Telepractice services
You can be referred to Guide Dogs services by a health care professional, a family member, or yourself, by:
- Completing the online referral form.
- Calling Client Services on 1800 484 333.

What you can expect
- Initial contact and assessment: You will be contacted within a few business days of referral to arrange an assessment and discuss goals.
- Client led program plan: Services are based on your needs, and may include Orientation and Mobility training, adaptive daily living strategies, home and workplace modifications, Assistive Technology training, or well-being support.
- Practical, goal-driven sessions: Delivered in the your own environment where possible, with strategies that can be applied immediately.
- Ongoing support: Follow up sessions, progress reviews, and connection to other community or specialist services.
