Summary

Reflect on where you are in your journey with vision changes and consider what could help next. Whether you’re still understanding your condition, noticing daily challenges, or thinking about your emotional wellbeing, here’s some prompts and practical options to explore.

Where to from here?

Thousands of Australians are navigating life with changes in their vision and finding ways to get the support that helps them move forward.

You may already have taken some steps, learning about your condition, exploring tools that make everyday tasks easier, or connecting with support along the way. But adjusting to vision changes is a process, and there is often more that can be done.

Most people find it helpful to focus on one practical step at a time. Choose your next step:

If everyday tasks are becoming less automatic:

Sometimes the next step becomes clear when small frustrations start appearing in daily life. Reading may feel more tiring. Glare might make things harder to see. Using a phone, tablet or computer might take more effort than it once did.

Often, simple adjustments can make a big difference. Increasing text size, improving lighting, or using magnification tools can make reading and everyday tasks easier.

Most smartphones and tablets also include built-in accessibility features such as voice-to-text dictation, text-to-speech and screen readers. Learning how to use these tools can make messaging, reading and staying connected much easier.

“You helped me make my device easier to read.”

“You changed the way I use my phone day-to-day.” Said some SeeWay digital skills participants. Let us help you too - visit our digital skills page to learn more.

If the emotional side feels heavy:

Adjusting to vision changes can bring emotional challenges. It is normal to feel frustrated, uncertain or worried about what the future might look like.

Speaking with a professional counsellor who understands vision loss can help you talk through these feelings and think about your next steps in a supportive environment.

Many people find that once they have space to process the emotional side, it becomes easier to focus on practical solutions.

SeeWay client Vincent said “It was hard to reach out for help. I wasn’t sure what to ask for”. But that’s ok. Give us a free call on 1800 733 929 and we’ll work with you to help.

Wherever you are in your journey, there are ways to keep moving forward, one practical step at a time.
